Assembly constituency no.26 Serchhip is an Assembly seat in the North region and Serchhip district, of the state of Mizoram, which is in the North East region of India (Bharat). Serchhip is part of the 1. Mizoram (General) Lok Sabha (Parliamentary) constituency. This constituency can be categorised as: Scheduled Tribe; Urban constituency.

Serchhip Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 0% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 98.14%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission of 2008. The estimated literacy level of the district in which this constituency falls in is 97.91%, according the Census of India, 2011.

In the 2023 Mizoram Assembly elections, there were a total of 20,609 eligible electors in the constituency, of which 9,678 were male and 10,931 female and registered voters were of the third gender.

The electorate sex ratio in Serchhip in 2023 was 1,129 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, there were a total of 18,148 eligible electors, of which 8,677 were male, 9,471 female and 136 electors of the third gender.

PAST RESULTS

In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, Lalduhoma of IND won in this seat defeating Lal Thanhawla of INC by a margin of 410 which was 2.64% of the total votes cast for the seat. IND had a vote share of 35.26% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, Lal Thanhawla of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating C Lalramzauva of MNF by a margin of 734 votes which was 5.32% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 41.48% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Lalthanhawla of INC won this seat beating C Lalramzauva of ZNP by a margin of 952 votes which was 7.96% of the total votes polled in the constituency. ZNP had a vote share of 39.68% in the seat.

The geographic coordinates of Serchhip is: 23°15’07.2″N 92°47’58.2″E. Serchhip shares its borders with six other Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram. In the 2018 elections this seat voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 and the results were declared on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. In the 2013 polls this constituency voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, December 04, 2013 and the results were declared on Sunday, December 08, 2013. In 2008, Serchhip voted in Phase 1 on Tuesday, December 02, 2008 and the results were declared on Monday, December 08, 2008.

EXTENT

Assembly constituency no.26. Serchhip comprises of the following areas of Serchhip district in the North region of Mizoram: Wd No 1 Serchhip Venglai, Wd No 2 Serchhip ‘e’, Wd No 3 Serchhip ‘W’ and Wd No 4 New Serchhip in Serchhip (Notified Town), Thenzawl (Notified Town), Buangpui and Neihloh in Serchhip R D Block.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 199 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Serchhip is: 23°15’07.2″N 92°47’58.2″E.

A total of six Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram share borders with Serchhip constituency, which are: Lunglei West, Thorang, Aizawl South-III, Tuikum, Hrangturzo, Lunglei North. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with no other state.
