Fabian Allen was targeted near the renowned Sandton Sun Hotel, leaving the cricketer in shock

West Indies all-rounder Fabian Allen has been reportedly robbed at gunpoint in Johannesburg. The 28-year-old, who is currently representing Paarl Royals in the second edition of SA20, confronted the armed assailants near the team hotel who forcibly took away his mobile phone and other belongings, including a bag.

According to Cricbuzz, Allen was targeted near the renowned Sandton Sun Hotel, leaving the cricketer in shock. The incident has certainly raised concerns over the security of the cricketers participating in the ongoing league in South Africa.

The Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the Paarl Royals management is yet to say anything officially on the incident. The report stated that an SA20 league spokesperson has redirected inquiries to the police.

The report also quoted a representative from the Cricket West Indies (CWI) stating that Allen is fine after the incident. However, he couldn’t provide much information on the horrific incident.

“Our head coach Andre Coley, also hailing from Jamaica, reached out to Fabian. Contact was successfully established through Obed McCoy (another West Indies international). He is fine. CSA (Cricket South Africa) and his team, Paarl Royals, could share more details if there are any,” the report quoted the CWI official as saying.

Paar Royals in SA20

The second edition of SA20 has entered the playoffs stage and the Royals are set to lock horns with Faf du Plessis’ Joburg Super Kings in the Eliminator on Wednesday at The Wanderers. Despite an average performance throughout the tournament, the team managed to make it to the playoffs. The Royals won 5 games and lost as many before securing a berth in the Eliminator.

The Qualifier 1 of the SA20 season 2 will see Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Durban Super Giants locking horns on Tuesday in Cape Town. The final will be played on February 10.
