James Anderson at the age of 41 years 187 days became the oldest to play in a Test match in India.

James Anderson became the oldest to play in a Test match in India at the age of 41 years 187 days, during the second Test of the five-match series at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

Anderson is playing his 184th Test as England captain Ben Stokes said the 41-year-old’s experience would come in handy as England bid to end India’s record of not losing a test series at home since 2012.

“Bringing Jimmy in, we just feel like there’s a bit more I can turn to him for,” Stokes said.

“Not only his new ball skills – reverse skills, his off-cutter skills and stuff like that.”

Anderson is also England’s record wicket-taker. Anderson is the only pacer in the team as he sets out on his 22nd calendar year of international cricket, and the first since the retirement of long-time fellow fast bowler Stuart Broad.

“It’s huge credit to him and lots of people should look up to Jimmy considering he is where he is at 41,” Stokes had said ahead of the match.

“Bringing in Jimmy’s experience, and the class that he has, is great for us and I think it also goes under the radar how good his record in India is. Considering what Jimmy is known for — the swing king and all that — it just proves how good a bowler he is. Taking nothing away from Woody, we just feel like there’s a bit more I can turn to him for,” Stokes added.
