Several former players have praised India’s vastly improved show with the ball on Day 3 despite being a bowler short.

Indian cricket team is playing with effectively 10 players on the Day 3 of the third Test against England in Rajkot. Star offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin has left the squad after a family emergency meaning Rohit Sharma and co are a personnel short in the batting and bowling department.

They are using Devdutt Padikkal as a substitute fielder but he won’t be allowed to bowl or bat as per the playing conditions since he’s not a like-for-like concussion substitute.

As a result, the bowling workload was shared between their four frontline bowlers including Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.

Incredibly, with fears of the team weakened in the bowling department due to Ashwin’s absence with the prospect of England building on their blazing reply to India’s 445-all out, the bowlers defied the predictions producing a remarkable show on Day 3.

From 207/3, England collapsed to be bowled out for 319 in their first innings with the likes of Siraj, Jadeja, Kuldeep and Bumrah stepping up on a docile pitch to give India a 126-run lead.

The series is currently locked at one-all with England winning the opening Test in Hyderabad while India drawing level in Vizag.
