Dhruv Jurel says facing James Anderson was a great experience

Speaking at the post-match show, Jurel said he plays as per the situation and the same formula he followed during the 4th Test in Ranchi.

Young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel bagged the Player of the Match Award on Monday as Team India defeated England by 5 wickets in the 4th Test in Ranchi, taking a 3-1 unassailable lead in the ongoing series. Playing just the second Test of his career, the right-hander played a couple of crucial knocks to help India nullify the pressure created by England.

In response to England’s first-innings score of 353, India were in a precarious situation when Jurel stood tall and bailed the team out with a gritty 90-run knock. He showed up again in the second essay when the hosts were chasing 192. He featured in an unbeaten 52-run match-winning partnership alongside Shubman Gill to crush the English hopes to level the series before heading to Dharamsala.

Speaking at the post-match show, Jurel said he plays as per the situation and the same formula he followed during the 4th Test in Ranchi.

“I play according to the demands of the situation. The 1st innings, we needed to get runs as well, we knew we had to bat last and so any runs would be vital. I was involved in some partnerships, so credit does go to all those who stayed and added runs,” Jurel said.

Playing against veteran James Anderson was a great experience for Jurel but the 23-year-old said focusing on the ball was important not the bowler.

“Obviously, it was a great experience playing against him. I have been watching on the television so far but more important was to focus on the ball rather than the bowler. Ball par focus karna tha bowler par nahi,” Jurel added.

Rohit heaps praise on Jurel

India captain Rohit Sharma commended Jurel’s terrific knocks that strengthened India across innings. Playing just his second Test, the wicketkeeper-batter from Agra scored a valiant 90 before aiding Gill with an unbeaten 39 in the second innings to forge a match-winning 52-run stand.

“Jurel, in his second Test, showed a lot of composure and has the shots as well. His 90 in the first innings brought us close to England’s total and he showed a lot of calmness and maturity in the 2nd innings,” Rohit said.
