Ravindra Jadeja got rid of Jonny Bairstow by setting the England batter up nicely to give India a vital breakthrough.
England batter Jonny Bairstow was biding his time, looking to get settled in for a long haul. He had started well, faced 21 deliveries without hitting a boundary and scored six runs with India spinners in operation midway through the second session of Day 3 of the first Test in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Bairstow decided to switch gears and went for a paddle sweep off Ravindra Jadeja, connected it and a misfield in the deep helped him to a first boundary.
Jadeja responded with the one that turned away after pitching as Bairstow was beaten on the outside edge.
So far, so good.
A clever Jadeja than played onto Bairstow’s mindset and bowled an arm-ball. An unsuspecting Bairstow shouldered arms hoping the ball to turn away this time as well.
The ball struck the bails and Bairstow’s expression revealed the story. He looked in disbelief and shock trying to process how Jadeja outfoxed him.
That was Jadeja’s first wicket of the contest as India struck again after a bright start from England’s top-order earlier in the day that saw them rack up 89 runs in just 15 overs in the morning session itself for the loss of just one wicket.
