Assembly constituency no.22 Tuichang is an Assembly seat in the North region and Khawzawl district, of the state of Mizoram, which is in the North East region of India (Bharat). Tuichang is part of the 1. Mizoram (General) Lok Sabha (Parliamentary) constituency. This constituency can be categorised as: Scheduled Tribe; Rural constituency.

DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE

Tuichang Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 0% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 91.84%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission of 2008. The estimated literacy level of the district in which this constituency falls in is 95.91%, according the Census of India, 2011.

In the 2023 Mizoram Assembly elections, there were a total of 17,508 eligible electors in the constituency, of which 8,713 were male and 8,795 female and registered voters were of the third gender.

The electorate sex ratio in Tuichang in 2023 was 1,009 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, there were a total of 16,274 eligible electors, of which 8,145 were male, 8,129 female and 79 electors of the third gender.

PAST RESULTS

In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, Tawnluia of MNF won in this seat defeating W Chhuanawma of IND by a margin of 739 which was 5.68% of the total votes cast for the seat. MNF had a vote share of 39.52% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, Lalrinliana Sailo of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Dr H Lallungmuana of MNF by a margin of 2,985 votes which was 23.21% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 48.66% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Lalrinliana Sailo of INC won this seat beating Rualkhuma Hmar of ZNP by a margin of 881 votes which was 7.76% of the total votes polled in the constituency. ZNP had a vote share of 39.02% in the seat.

The geographic coordinates of Tuichang is: 23°21’16.2″N 93°09’08.3″E. Tuichang shares its borders with five other Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram. The other Mizoram Assembly constituencies adjacent to Tuichang are: Champhai North, Lengteng, Hrangturzo, East Tuipui, Champhai South. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with: no other state.

Tuichang Assembly constituency went to the polls in Phase 1 on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, in the Mizoram Assembly elections 2023. The counting of votes is on Monday, December 4, 2023. In the 2018 elections this seat voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 and the results were declared on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. In the 2013 polls this constituency voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, December 04, 2013 and the results were declared on Sunday, December 08, 2013. In 2008, Tuichang voted in Phase 1 on Tuesday, December 02, 2008 and the results were declared on Monday, December 08, 2008.

EXTENT

Assembly constituency no.22. Tuichang comprises of the following areas of Khawzawl district in the North region of Mizoram: Khawzawl (Notified Town), Villages of Hmuncheng, Chawngtlai, Khawpuitan, Tualte, Vangtlang, Chalrang, New Chalrang, melhnih Chalrang, lungtan, Tlangpuite, Khuailui, Arro, Phunchawngzawl, Khualen and Khawhai (Notified Town) in Khawzawl R D Block; and Villages Riangtlei, Tlangpui and Sialhawk in e lungdar R D Block.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 517 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Tuichang is: 23°21’16.2″N 93°09’08.3″E.

A total of five Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram share borders with Tuichang constituency, which are: Champhai North, Lengteng, Hrangturzo, East Tuipui, Champhai South. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with no other state.
