Assembly constituency no.9 Tawi is an Assembly seat in the Aizwal region and Saitual district, of the state of Mizoram, which is in the North East region of India (Bharat). Tawi is part of the 1. Tawi Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 0.19% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 87.94%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission of 2008. The estimated literacy level of the district in which this constituency falls in is 97.89%, according the Census of India, 2011.

In the 2023 Mizoram Assembly elections, there were a total of 17,118 eligible electors in the constituency, of which 8,184 were male and 8,934 female and registered voters were of the third gender.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, there were a total of 15,656 eligible electors, of which 7,599 were male, 8,057 female and 171 electors of the third gender.

PAST RESULTS

In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, R Lalzirliana of MNF won in this seat defeating R Lalthatluanga of IND by a margin of 184 which was 1.39% of the total votes cast for the seat. MNF had a vote share of 37.35% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, R Lalzirliana of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Lalmalsawmi of MNF by a margin of 947 votes which was 7.47% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 45.42% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, R Lalzirliana of INC won this seat beating Lalchhandama Ralte of MNF by a margin of 1,211 votes which was 10.62% of the total votes polled in the constituency. MNF had a vote share of 41.29% in the seat.

In the 2018 elections this seat voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 and the results were declared on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. In the 2013 polls this constituency voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, December 04, 2013 and the results were declared on Sunday, December 08, 2013. In 2008, Tawi voted in Phase 1 on Tuesday, December 02, 2008 and the results were declared on Monday, December 08, 2008.

EXTENT

Assembly constituency no.9. Tawi comprises of the following areas of Saitual district in the Aizwal region of Mizoram: Villages Saitual (Notified Town), Saitual, Keifang, Ruallung, Rulchawm and Saitual Spl charge – BRTF, Thingsulthliah, Saisih Vety Farm, Aichalkawn, Seling, Phaibawk, edenthar, Tuikhurhlu, Thingsul Tlangnuam, mualpheng, lenchim, Tawizo and maite in Thingsulthliah R D Block.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 476 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Tawi is: 23°35’24.0″N 92°56’20.4″E.

A total of five Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram share borders with Tawi constituency, which are: Aizawl East-I, Chalfilh, Aizawl South-III, Tuikum, Lengteng. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with no other state.
