Prithvi Shaw is set to get back to action after a long injury layoff. The right-hand batter is going to be a part of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the next fixture against Bengal, starting Friday. He suffered a knee injury in August 2023 during his county stint with Northamptonshire which required him to go under the knife.
CricketNext on Tuesday reported that the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) was awaiting clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), which was received on Wednesday, January 31. Shaw has been in the NCA for months, doing rehab and following all the necessary recovery protocols.
The 24-year-old has already missed two white-ball domestic tournaments – the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Before getting injured, he had mixed results with the bat. He accumulated 595 runs in ten innings in the previous Ranji Trophy season, including a record 379-run knock off 383 balls against Assam. However, his inconsistency troubled him, which eventually reflected in the IPL as well.
He had almost found his mojo back when his bat started to talk in the English county. He scored 429 runs in four innings, including a record-breaking 244 off 153 balls against Somerset. However, the knee injury cut short his stint and the Mumbai lad was ruled out.
