Sourabh Kumar is a spin-bowling all-rounder, who represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket.

Sourabh Kumar was added to the Indian cricket team for the second Test of their five-match series against England, which begins on February 2 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Selection Committee named the 30-year-old left-arm spinner after all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and middle-order batter KL Rahul were been ruled out.

Rohit Sharma’s India lost the nail-biting first Test by 28 runs in Hyderabad on Sunday after being ahead in the match for most of the opening three days.

Along with Sourabh Kumar, batter Sarfaraz Khan and all-rounder Washington Sundar in to the squad for the second Test.

Who is Sourabh Kumar?

Like Ravindra Jadeja, Saurabh Kumar is also a spin-bowling all-rounder, who represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. And Just like Jadeja, Sourabh bats left-handed and bowls left-arm orthodox spin.

In first-class cricket, Saurabh has a batting average, with two hundreds and 12 half-centuroes to his name. With the ball, Saurabh has taken 290 first-class wickets in 68 matches.

Recently Saurabh starred in India A’s 16-run win over England Lions in the second ‘unofficial Test’ as the left-arm spinner claimed his 22nd five-wicket haul.

In fact, Saurbbha had been named as one of five net bowlers for India;s Test series against England in January 2021.

It will be intersting to see if Saurabh plas in the second Test, as Jadeja did well with the bat and ball in the first match, having snapped up five wickets and made 87 in the first innings.

As Jadeja’s all-round abilities are invaluable to the team, off-spinner Sundar, who has shown a lot of promise in his four-Test old career, could replace him in the playing eleven.
