Assembly constituency no.31 Lunglei East is an Assembly seat in the South region and Lunglei district, of the state of Mizoram, which is in the North East region of India (Bharat). Lunglei East Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 0.04% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 96.87%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission of 2008. The estimated literacy level of the district in which this constituency falls in is 88.86%, according the Census of India, 2011.

In the 2023 Mizoram Assembly elections, there were a total of 16,248 eligible electors in the constituency, of which 7,722 were male and 8,526 female and registered voters were of the third gender.

The electorate sex ratio in Lunglei East in 2023 was 1,104 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, there were a total of 14,829 eligible electors, of which 7,185 were male, 7,644 female and 73 electors of the third gender.

PAST RESULTS

In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, Lawmawma Tochhawng of MNF won in this seat defeating Lalrinpuii of IND by a margin of 72 which was 0.58% of the total votes cast for the seat. MNF had a vote share of 32.91% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, Joseph Lalhimpuia of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Lalrinzuala of MPC by a margin of 1,611 votes which was 14.81% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 49.32% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Joseph Lalhimpuia of INC won this seat beating Samson Zoramthanga of MNF by a margin of 423 votes which was 4.32% of the total votes polled in the constituency. MNF had a vote share of 39.8% in the seat.

In the 2018 elections this seat voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 and the results were declared on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. In the 2013 polls this constituency voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, December 04, 2013 and the results were declared on Sunday, December 08, 2013. In 2008, Lunglei East voted in Phase 1 on Tuesday, December 02, 2008 and the results were declared on Monday, December 08, 2008.

Assembly constituency no.31. Lunglei East comprises of the following areas of Lunglei district in the South region of Mizoram: Wd No 5 electric Veng, Wd No 12 Chanmari, Wd No 13 Farm Veng, Wd No 15 Ramthar Wd No 21 lungpuizawl and Wd No 22 Zobawk in lunglei (Notified Town) and Villages Hlumte, New Dawn, Ralvawng, maudarh, leite and Rotlang ‘e’ in lunglei R D Block.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 166 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Lunglei East is: 22°53’07.8″N 92°52’11.6″E.

A total of four Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram share borders with Lunglei East constituency, which are: Lunglei South, Lunglei West, Lunglei North, South Tuipui. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with no other state.
