Assembly constituency no.5 Kolasib is an Assembly seat in the North region and Kolasib district, of the state of Mizoram, which is in the North East region of India (Bharat). Kolasib Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 0.04% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 89.36%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission of 2008. The estimated literacy level of the district in which this constituency falls in is 93.5%, according the Census of India, 2011.

In the 2023 Mizoram Assembly elections, there were a total of 23,971 eligible electors in the constituency, of which 11,297 were male and 12,674 female and registered voters were of the third gender.

The electorate sex ratio in Kolasib in 2023 was 1,122 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, there were a total of 21,772 eligible electors, of which 10,443 were male, 11,329 female and 107 electors of the third gender.

In the 2013 Mizoram Assembly elections, there were a total of 19,047 eligible electors, of which 9,314 were male, 9,733 female and 0 voters of the third gender.

In the 2008 Assembly polls, there were a total of 16,011 eligible electors, of which 7,999 were male, 8,012 female and 0 electors of the third gender.

The number of service voters in Kolasib in 2018 was 107. In 2013, there were 111 service voters registered in the constituency and 113 in 2008.

PAST RESULTS

In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, K Lalrinliana of MNF won in this seat defeating Lalfamkima of IND by a margin of 279 which was 1.57% of the total votes cast for the seat. MNF had a vote share of 33.35% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, P C Zoram Sangliana of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Lalchamliana of MNF by a margin of 595 votes which was 3.73% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 38.06% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, P C Zoramsangliana of INC won this seat beating K Lalrinliana of MNF by a margin of 1,048 votes which was 7.78% of the total votes polled in the constituency. MNF had a vote share of 40.92% in the seat.

The geographic coordinates of Kolasib is: 24°12’05.0″N 92°36’54.7″E. Kolasib shares its borders with four other Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram. The other Mizoram Assembly constituencies adjacent to Kolasib are: Serlui, Tuirial, Mamit, Hachhek. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with: Hailakandi district of Assam.

Kolasib Assembly constituency went to the polls in Phase 1 on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, in the Mizoram Assembly elections 2023. The counting of votes is on Monday, December 4, 2023. In the 2018 elections this seat voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 and the results were declared on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. In the 2013 polls this constituency voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, December 04, 2013 and the results were declared on Sunday, December 08, 2013. In 2008, Kolasib voted in Phase 1 on Tuesday, December 02, 2008 and the results were declared on Monday, December 08, 2008.

Assembly constituency no.5. Kolasib comprises of the following areas of Kolasib district in the North region of Mizoram: Bairabi (Notified Town), Villages Hmaibialaveng, meidum, Pangbalkawn, S Chhimluang, in North Thingdawl R D Block; and Kolasib Vengthar, Diakkawn ‘S’, Diakkawn, lungpher Veng, Venglai, Hmarveng, Tumpui and Dinthar in Kolasib (Notified Town).

This constituency covers an approximate area of 189 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Kolasib is: 24°12’05.0″N 92°36’54.7″E.

A total of four Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram share borders with Kolasib constituency, which are: Serlui, Tuirial, Mamit, Hachhek. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with Hailakandi district of Assam.
