England have suffered their first Test series defeat of Ben Stokes-Brendon McCullum era with India storming to an unassailable 3-1 lead.

England started their India tour on a promising note, winning the Hyderabad Test to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. However, by the time the fourth Test ended,  normal services had resumed with India extending their dominating home run by clinching a record-extending 17th straight series win.

Indian batting legend Virender Sehwag took a dig at England’s recent performance on X (formerly Twitter).

He shared current World Test Championship (WTC) points table where England occupies the second-last spot, only ahead of Sri Lanka.

Sehwag, one of the most aggressive openers in Test history, reckons England’s combative ‘Bazball’ approach might have entertained fans but it is yet to produce positive results consistently.

England, under captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum, have been following the aggressive approach with the bat and the ball in Test cricket, a philosophy that has helped them achieve some success.

Since the duo took over the charge in 2022, England remained unbeaten in all their Test series before falling victim to India in the ongoing tour.

Referring to their failure in India, Sehwag wrote, “Karlo Entertainment, England. Jeet jaisi boring cheez Bharat, Australia, New Zealand kar lenge (Keep entertaining, England. India, Australia and New Zealand can do the boring job of winning.”

New Zealand continue to lead the WTC rankings, having won three Tests in the ongoing cycle. India hold the second spot with five victories and one draw while Australia follow them on the list. The reigning WTC champions have registered six victories in ten matches. Meanwhile, England have managed only three wins and one draw in nine Tests.

England kicked off the tour of India on a dominant note as they won the opening Hyderabad Test by 28 runs. The visitors, however, failed to continue the momentum in the following matches due to repeated batting failure.

In the fourth Test, England were bundled out for 145 runs in their second innings. Ravichandran Ashwin was the game-changer for India as the veteran off-spinner fetched a five-wicket haul. Kuldeep Yadav also shone on the occasion and got a four-fer under his belt.
