Joe Root overtook Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run-scorer in India vs England Test matches.
England star batter Joe Root surpassed Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday to become the highest run-scorer in India vs England Test matches during the first clash of the five-match series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.
Root steeped in the field needing 10 runs to outshine Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 2,535 runs in 32 matches against England. In the 21st over, with a boundary off Axar Patel, the 33-year-old English batter surpassed Tendulkar’s record, accumulating 2555 in 48 matches.

Root also inscribed his name in World Test Championship history by becoming the first batter to breach the 4000-run mark, amassing a staggering 4016 runs from 48 Tests.
In the ongoing first Test against India, Root’s inning ended on the score of 29 off 60 after he attempted a sweep shot off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja and got caught on the short fine-leg.
England were bowled out for 246 as skipper Ben Stokes was the last man to be dimissed, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, for 70 after he elected to bat on winning the toss.
England got off to a rollicking start as Ben Duckett (35) and Zak Crawley (20) batted with the kind of aggression that has become the hallmark of the Brendan McCullum-coached side during their opening stand of 55.
But home captain Rohit Sharma turned the match on its head by introducing spin from both ends after the first eight overs.
Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets each after England elected to bat first at the start of the five-match series.
England lost regular wickets until Stokes took charge to lift the total before departing as the final wicket.
England, for the first time in a men’s test, went into the match with just one fast bowler in Wood.
