It was an absorbing morning session of play on Day 1 of the 2nd Test between India and England with each side taking positives at the lunch break.

The second Test began on a positive note for India unlike with Rohit Sharma winning the toss and expectedly opting to bat first. However, by the time the morning session ended, they must have felt a tad disappointed at not having made full use of the batting-friendly conditions while losing two wickets on a pitch that wasn’t offering much to the bowlers.

Thanks to a solid half-century from Yashasvi Jaiswal, India reached 103/2 in 31 overs when the lunch break was taken on Day 1 of their second Test against England that got underway in Vizag today.

India were watchful in the first hour of play. Both their openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, happy to play the waiting game. They succeeded and got the start.

However, Rohit fell into the leg-slip trap when he ended up inside edging a quick off-break from debutant Shoaib Bashir to Ollie Pope for a good catch. He walked back after managing 14 off 41.

In walked Shubman Gill, under pressure after another another forgettable Test in Hyderabad last week. He was brisk, not shying away from showing intent and seemed to have gotten into a groove before James Anderson induced an outside edge to have him caught behind on 34 an over before the lunch break.

However, Jaiswal was pretty solid throughout, not giving any chances. With a six and four off successive deliveries from Bashir he got to third fifty of his Test career and was unbeaten on 51 off 92.

Shreyas Iyer opened his account with the final delivery of the morning session, a full delivery from Anderson thrashed through mid-on for a four.

India made three changes to their playing XI giving debut to Rajat Patidar while bringing in Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar. Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul are out injured while Mohammed Siraj has been rested.

Brief Scores: India 103/2 in 31 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 51*, Shubman Gill 34) vs England (James Anderson 1/19, Shoaib Bashir 1/39) at Lunch on Day 1
