I’m in love with a Barber Shop. But not just any barber shop, Antica Barbieria Colla. First opened in 1904 it pretty much embodies everything I love about Italy: history, quality, attention to detail…

Walking into the store is like walking back in time. But while sometimes that can seem awkward, or ill placed or just fake. Non of those things come to mind at Antica Barbieria Colla. Instead it somehow makes sense to be standing next a shelf with a 80 yr old bottles of tonic.

And that there is a metal horse just hanging out.

And there are pictures of famous people lining the walls. Faces of people that did (and still do) go there for a trim a shave and/or a manicure.

Of all the people that have walked through these walls, most importantly to me is my hubby. (ya’ll know I love him!). In this picture he’s about to get his hair cut in preparation for our wedding.

My husband is also hipster old school (but he’d never admit to it). So he uses a boars hair shaving brush and Antica Barbieria shaving products. I love to caress his magically shaven facial cheeks. 😉 The sweet yet masculine smell of the products to me now say “my man” and without a fail brings a smile to my face.

The barber shop has also recently launched a small line of rose scented products for us ladies. It seems that razorless shaving has been a thing for quite some time in Japan. It exfoliates the skin and products hydrate the skin.

The launch party was called “The Gentlewomen’s Club” and was held on International Women’s Day. The hubby and I went to check it out.

So now you all understand. How could I not love this place when I have associations and memories like that?

The cherry on the top in sealing this place’s fate as my Barber Shop heartthrob… the relationship I have developed with Franco Bompieri and his family. That warmth and smile you see and feel in this picture below is truly indicative of the spirit of Mr. Bompieri.
