Deepti Sharma was handed an appointment letter by the UP Chief Minister and Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur who expressed their best wishes for Deepti’s future endeavours.

India all-rounder Deepti Sharma was honoured with the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by the Uttar Pradesh government. The 26-year-old cricketing star has consistently delivered stellar performances for the national squad, winning games for the women’s team. This led to her being conferred with the special honour by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Deepti also received a cash prize of Rs 3 crores as the Uttar Pradesh government acknowledged her achievements on Saturday, January 27. She was handed an appointment letter by the UP Chief Minister and Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur who expressed their best wishes for Deepti’s future endeavours.

As per India Today, Deepti expressed her gratitude for the honour during the ceremony and shared her aspirations of promoting the growth of women’s cricket in India. In the same ceremony, several other Agra-based athletes were also recognised for their contribution to sports. The event saw Para athletes Jatin Kushwaha and Yash Kumar receive Rs 5 lakhs each for their participation in the Para Asian Games. Snooker champion Paras Gupta and rifle shooter Ayushi Gupta were also honoured for competing and winning their events in the National Games.

Deepti’s journey as a cricketer commenced in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The female star had shown an early dedication towards sports while balancing her education on the side. In her career with the Indian women’s cricket team, Deepti has recorded several notable achievements. She clinched a gold medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games in China with India. She had previously won a silver medal in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Deepti rounded off her year by winning the ICC Player of the Month award in December, becoming only the second Indian woman cricketer to receive this prize. Towards the beginning of January 2024, she was selected by the Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) as the Best International Women’s Cricketer in the years 2019/20 and 2022/23.

She recently made the headlines once again after the star all-rounder climbed to the second spot in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings. She is now the joint second position holder alongside Pakistan off-spinner Sadia Iqbal. Deepti recently competed in a T20I series against Australia earlier this month. Two games into the series, India and Australia were levelled at a victory each. However, the Aussies were able to pull off a seven-wicket victory in Navi Mumbai to win 2-1. In that match, Deepti had an underwhelming showing, having scored just 18 runs while taking one wicket.
