Yashasvi Jaiswal’s childhood coach Arif Hussain looked back at the time when the youngster was admitted in his academy.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in his best form for the Indian team. The 22-year-old opening batter has already scored two double hundreds in the ongoing Test series against England. Having played seven Tests so far, Jaiswal is currently enjoying a sensational average of 71.75.

Jaiswal’s childhood coach Arif Hussain recently recalled the period when he admitted the youngster in his academy years back. “We always believed there was something special in Yashasvi,” Arif was quoted as saying by India Today.

He added, “We made plans and took him to Mumbai, providing transportation training, and now the results speak for themselves. He was brilliant from the start, a sparkle we witnessed, and today, the results are evident to all. I remember admitting him to my academy in 2007-08, and within a year, he secured a place in the senior team, where we provided him with every opportunity.”

After pulling off impressive performances in the domestic circuit, Yashasvi Jaiswal made his international debut in July last year. Jaiswal could not have asked for a better start to his international career as he scored a century in that game against West Indies. Jaiswal was also awarded Player of the Match for his sublime knock of 171 against the Caribbean side.

In ODIs, Yashasvi Jaiswal made his debut a month later against the same opponents. The southpaw stole the limelight once again after producing a fabulous double hundred against England in the second Test in Visakhapatnam. Jaiswal had scored 209 in the first innings of that fixture. India had gone on to win that match to level the series 1-1.

Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his brilliance with the bat and notched another double hundred against England in the next Test in Rajkot. He remained unbeaten on 214 in the second innings of that game. Team India, eventually, won that match to earn a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series against the Ben Stokes-led side.

Thanks to his brilliant series of performances, Yashasvi Jaiswal has now succeeded in entering the top-20 of the ICC Test Rankings. He rose 14 spots to 15th in the batting standings after producing back-to-back Test double-centuries against England. The youngstar also became a part of an elite list of players to score double-hundreds in two consecutive Tests.
