Aizawl West – I Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 0.05% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 89.25%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission of 2008. The estimated literacy level of the district in which this constituency falls in is 97.89%, according the Census of India, 2011.

In the 2023 Mizoram Assembly elections, there were a total of 29,810 eligible electors in the constituency, of which 13,998 were male and 15,812 female and registered voters were of the third gender.

The electorate sex ratio in Aizawl West – I in 2023 was 1,130 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, there were a total of 25,040 eligible electors, of which 11,883 were male, 13,157 female and 117 electors of the third gender.

PAST RESULTS

In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, Lalduhoma of IND won in this seat defeating K Sangthuama of MNF by a margin of 1,060 which was 5.2% of the total votes cast for the seat. IND had a vote share of 38.71% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, K Sangthuama of MNF emerged victorious in this seat beating Tlangthanmawii of INC by a margin of 462 votes which was 2.65% of the total votes polled in the constituency. MNF had a vote share of 36.61% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Lalduhawma of ZNP won this seat beating R Tlanghmingthanga of MNF by a margin of 742 votes which was 5.07% of the total votes polled in the constituency. MNF had a vote share of 38.98% in the seat.

In the 2013 polls this constituency voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, December 04, 2013 and the results were declared on Sunday, December 08, 2013. In 2008, Aizawl West – I voted in Phase 1 on Tuesday, December 02, 2008 and the results were declared on Monday, December 08, 2008.

Aizawl West – I comprises of the following areas of Aizawl district in the Aizwal region of Mizoram: Wd No 1 Sairang Wd No 2 S Sihhmui Wd No 3 S Dinthar and Wd No 4 S (PTC) in Sairang (Notified Town), Aizawl (Notified Town) – Wd No 61 – Chawnpui, Wd No 62 – Zotlang, Wd No 63 – Chawlhhmun, Wd No 64 – luangmual, Wd No 65 – Zonuam, Wd No 66 – luangmual Govt Complex, Wd No 67 – Tanhril, Wd No 68 – Sakawrtuichhun and Wd No 69 – Rangvamual in Tlangnuam R D Block.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 90 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Aizawl West – I is: 23°47’49.6″N 92°40’10.2″E.
