DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE

Aizawl North – I Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 0.16% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 92.55%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission of 2008. The estimated literacy level of the district in which this constituency falls in is 97.89%, according the Census of India, 2011.

In the 2023 Mizoram Assembly elections, there were a total of 26,852 eligible electors in the constituency, of which 12,391 were male and 14,461 female and registered voters were of the third gender.

The electorate sex ratio in Aizawl North – I in 2023 was 1,167 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, there were a total of 23,129 eligible electors, of which 10,800 were male, 12,329 female and 151 electors of the third gender.

In the 2013 Mizoram Assembly elections, there were a total of 20,356 eligible electors, of which 9,595 were male, 10,761 female and 0 voters of the third gender.

PAST RESULTS

In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, Vanlalhlana of IND won in this seat defeating Lalringliana of MNF by a margin of 1,165 which was 6.58% of the total votes cast for the seat. IND had a vote share of 40.09% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, R Romawia of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Vanlalhlana of MPC by a margin of 657 votes which was 4.08% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 37.08% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, R Romawia of INC won this seat beating Dr Lalzama of MNF by a margin of 1,037 votes which was 7.73% of the total votes polled in the constituency. MNF had a vote share of 36.89% in the seat.

In the 2018 elections this seat voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 and the results were declared on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. In the 2013 polls this constituency voted in Phase 1 on Wednesday, December 04, 2013 and the results were declared on Sunday, December 08, 2013. In 2008, Aizawl North – I voted in Phase 1 on Tuesday, December 02, 2008 and the results were declared on Monday, December 08, 2008.

Aizawl North – I comprises of the following areas of Aizawl district in the Aizwal region of Mizoram: Aizawl (Notified Town) – Wd No 1 – Durtlang Vengthar / Selesih, – Wd No 2 – Durtlang, – Wd No 3 – Durtlang leitan, Wd No 7 – Bawngkawn and Wd No 16 – Chaltlang in Tlangnuam R D Block.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 18 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Aizawl North – I is: 23°46’13.8″N 92°43’57.0″E.

A total of four Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram share borders with Aizawl North – I constituency, which are: Aizawl West-I, Aizawl East-I, Aizawl North-II, Aizawl North-III. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with no other state.
